Shirley L. Heinke

May 23, 1926 — October 31, 2017

SIOUX CITY | Shirley L. (McKenna) Heinke, 91, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at her residence.

 

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. R. Paul Johnston officiating. A private family burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service at church. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

 

Shirley was born May 23, 1926 in Sioux City to Charles R. and Geneva M. Greeny McKenna. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1944. She continued her education at Ward Belmont College and the University of Nebraska where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. For many years she taught kindergarten for the Sioux City Community School District.

 

In 1948, she married Robert R. Heinke in Sioux City. Together they raised four sons. Robert passed away Dec. 15, 1982 in Sioux City.

                    

Shirley was a cradle member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and a 50+ year member of PEO. Throughout the years she enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Lake Marion in Minnesota. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

                                                                               

Survivors include 4 sons and their spouses, Charles and Pattie Heinke of Lincoln, NE, David Heinke and Connie Watkins of Elmhurst, IL, Jeffrey and Nancy Heinke of San Antonio, TX and William and Sue Heinke of Sioux City; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents (Charles and Geneva McKenna), husband (Robert Heinke), sister and her husband (Mary and Byron Deck).
