Bill was born September 22, 1941 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Joseph Henry and Elizabeth Lee (Cuthbertson) Cook. He grew up, graduated high school, and he attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Bill later moved to Sioux City, and lived more than 40 years in Sioux City and Hinton, Iowa. Bill married Barbara DuVall and to this union three children were born. The couple later divorced and he married June French in 1974. June passed away from a car accident in 1975. Bill married Sharon Mae Horsley on December 17, 1977 in Hinton, Iowa.

Bill believed very strongly in fire protection sprinkler systems and worked for many companies including National Automatic Sprinkler, Grunau Fire Protection, and Grinnell Fire Protection. He was also part owner of Professional Fire Protection and Northwest Missouri Sprinkler in Lawson, MO for many years. Bill owned and operated WC Fire Protection and ACF Fire Protection in Sioux City and for the last 20 years he worked for Building Sprinkler Inc. in Sioux Falls, SD.

Family was also very important to Bill, and he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bill and Sharon’s home was a refuge to many children and young people. Bill was like a second father to many different people throughout his lifetime. He was always very generous and giving. Bill was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved to “tinker” on his rental property that he owned in Sioux City for over 40 years.
