Michaela “Mickey” Cruz, 94, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at a local retirement community, after a long battle with cancer. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Very Reverend Father Brent Lingle as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes.
Michaela was born on September 7, 1923, in Sioux City, to Clement and Ruth Cruz. She spent her entire life in Sioux City, and was a member at St. Joseph Parish. She worked at Armours, Johnson Biscuit, and later at Interbake until she retired. She made beautiful dolls by crocheting, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting many beautiful keepsakes. Gardening was her second favorite hobby. She was a second mother to many nieces and nephews, and was always there when anyone needed a helping hand. She also took good care of her sister Lucy until her death in March 2017.
Survivors include sisters: Helen (Ishmeal), and Mary Chavez, brother Walt (Carol), and sister-in-law Kay (Rudolph); many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Raymond, Clement Jr., Rufino, and Rudolph; and sisters: Jessie, Lucy, and Cecilla. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
