It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Ronald E. Mitchell on September 30th. He was a wonderful brother, uncle, friend and a very caring and kind person.
Ron was born June 4, 1924, in Luverne, Minn. to Eva and Leonard Mitchell. He attended school at Sheldon, Iowa from 1929 until his graduation in 1943. Ron then went to cosmetology school in Sioux city and worked at “Davidson’s Maison Lorenzo Shop” for 10 years. He also taught ballroom dancing in the evening at the Arthur Murray studio for 2 years. Music was always a big part of his life, both as an active participant and generous supporter.
In 1956, he took a cruise on the Queen Mary to Paris, France and studied hair styling for three weeks. Upon completion of the course, he returned to Sioux City for consulting work as style director at Younker’s hair stylist for one more year. Ron opened a salon at 512 Nebraska Street for 19 years and then was semi-retired at a shop in the lower level of his home at 2612 Hamilton Blvd. He worked part-time until his health required a complete retirement in 2010.
Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sister, Joan Wells, a niece, Debra Engen, a nephew Tom Wells and wife Cyndy, a grandniece Christina and dear friend, Patty Schwinn.
There will be a celebration of his Life on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 at 10 A.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery.
