Kirsten M. “Kris” Hermann, 79, of Sioux City, passed away, Wednesday, September 27, 2017. A Celebration of Life service will be 6 P.M. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
Kirsten was born the daughter of Thomas and Tora Eriksen on December 7, 1937 in Stavanger, Norway. She married Lorin Hermann on July 17, 1957. They came to the United States in September of 1957. She became a U.S. Citizen on April 8, 1963. They lived in Mason City, Ames, and Cedar Rapids before moving to Sioux City in 1969. To this union four children, Jon Eric, Lisa, Lori, and Thomas were born. They divorced in 1979.
Kirsten worked at several businesses over the years. Fifteen years at The Sioux City Journal, Aalfs Manufacturing, Sioux Trails Girl Scout Council, and most recently, VIP Casino in North Sioux City.
Throughout the years she was involved in The Goodfellow Charities, United Way, West High School Booster Club, S.C. Press Club and acted in the Press Club’s Gridiron shows in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Kirsten loved to travel and made many friends wherever she went. You could always count on her to help out and make you smile.
Kris is survived by one son, Thomas (Michele) Hermann of Sioux City; two daughters, Lisa (Rick) Schupbach of Grundy Center, Iowa and Lori (Lonn) Larson of Baxter, Minnesota; longtime partner, James Brownlee of Sioux City; one sister,Ingeborg Storli. Grandchildren: Taylor (Brooke) Schupbach, Treye Schupbach, Emilee (Jordan) Timothy, Ben Larson, Sarah (Ryan) Swearingen, Ryan Ingalls, Megan (Peter) Greigg, and Tommy Hermann. Great-grandchildren: Brie and Indy Schupbach, Cambree and Jaylee Swearingen, Noah and Joseph Greigg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jon Eric; and one brother, Tor Eriksen.
