Carl "Wakopes'ni Mani" John

September 3, 1989 — September 23, 2017

Carl Jay John “Wakopes’ni Mani”, 28, of Sioux City, Ia., began his journey to the spirit world September 23, 2017 after a long illness. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Four Directions Community Center.  Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be today at Four Directions with a wake service at 7 p.m. Carl was the first born son to Linette John of Sioux City, IA and Lyle Henry III of South Sioux City, NE. Carl was born and raised in Sioux City and graduated from West High where he had many friends.  He loved skateboarding and was a talented artist and grass dancer.  His sense of humor made the whole room laugh, and his loving personality touched everyone's heart. Since July of 2003 Carl has been in a persistent vegetative state.  Carl remained at home in the full care of his mother with some nursing services.  Carl continued to touch everyone’s heart giving us all strength and inspiration.  We have the greatest admiration of him for being as strong as he was, and helping many people in his life. Carl Jay was loved by everyone, and will be missed greatly. Thank you Carl Jay for blessing us with laughter, love, and strength. Carl was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lonny Philip John Sr. and Eddie John, and his grandmothers, Mary Matsushige and Viva "Berdie" Henry. Carl is survived by his mother and father, siblings, Raelyn Henry, Cody John, Jaisyn Thomas, and Mary Thomas, nephew, Raiden Sky Thomas, grandmothers, Naomi John and Juanita John, uncles, aunts, and cousins. To my boy, thank you for blessing my life and making my world very beautiful. Love Mom.
