Darlene J. Peterson, 85, of Sioux City, IA died Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2017, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd.) in Sioux City with Reverend Jim Shirbroun officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Darlene, the daughter of Walter and Madge (Dicus) Scott, was born May 8, 1932, at Smithland, IA. She grew up and attended school in the area of her birth.
On December 16, 1950, Darlene was united in marriage to Harold A. Peterson in Onawa, IA and this union was blessed with three children: Michael, Patsy and Gary. The family made their home in Sioux City. Darlene worked at Swift Produce and Interbake Foods until retiring in 1997.
Darlene enjoyed caring for her cat, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed Thursday happy hour at Townhouse with her sister. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. During retirement, she volunteered at St. Luke’s hospital. Darlene will be remembered for her sense of humor and her witty one-liners.
Darlene is survived by her children: Michael (Jacqueline) Peterson of Port Orchard, WA, Patsy (Gary, Sr.) Benson of Sioux City and Gary (Evelyn) Peterson of Sioux City; one step daughter, Patty (Norm) Cline of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Verrill and Phyllis Dicks both of Sioux City; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold on October 6, 1996; one sister, June Chrestensen and one brother, Ronnie Scott.
