Diane L. Cox, 70 of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Shirbroun officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. www.meyerbroschapels.com Diane was born March 14, 1947 in Sioux City, IA, to Donald L and Norma G (Harris) Severeide. Diane was a lifetime resident of Sioux City and attended East High School where she was captain of the drill team. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska and master’s degree at the University of South Dakota.
She was united in marriage to Vince Cox on March 27, 1999. They spent almost 19 years side-by-side; if you saw one, you saw the other. They enjoyed spending time with family, friends and traveling. Their adventures taking them to places like Orange Beach, Hawaii, Italy, and the Caribbean. Diane and Vince shared a love for teaching making a difference in the lives of many.
Diane was an English teacher at East Middle and North High School for 26 years where she was the recipient of Iowa’s First in the Nation in Education award for teaching English as a Second Language. She was also on the executive committee for the Sioux City Education Assoc. Diane was active in the JH Chapter of P.E.O and the Sioux City Junior League and heavily involved in fundraising for the Crittenton Center. She was a member of Grace United Methodist church and enjoyed playing golf at the Morningside Country Club and Sioux City Boat Club. She was an avid fan of Nebraska and Iowa State football, gardening, playing bridge, boating on the Missouri River and spending time with family at her lake home in Okoboji. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She spent endless hours rocking babies, holding hands, reading books, baking cookies, going to ball games, and filling every holiday with tradition and special memories.
She is survived by her husband Vince Cox of Sioux City; three children, Rob (Katie) Towler of Sioux City, Lisa (Matt) Braet of Sioux City and Scott (Ivy) Towler of Coralville; three step-children; Travis Cox of Ankeny, Tiffany (Joe) Hoeck of Ankeny, Wade (Kathi) Cox of Ankeny; 10 grandchildren; Jack, Sam and Hollie Peterson; Maggie, Will, Cade and Graham Towler; Ben, Casey and Annie Towler; 9 step-grandchildren; Kaity, Abby, Grace, Ellie and Cami Cox; AJ & Ashley Hoeck; Rowan and Evie Cox.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Linda K Becker.
Memorials will be directed to local charities supporting underprivileged children.
