Ernest J. Foster

Moore, Oklahoma – Ernest J. Foster, 82, formerly of Hinton, Iowa died Monday, September 4th, 2017 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, OK after a month-long illness.

Mr. Foster was born June 6, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Ernest F. Foster and Bonnie (Brown) Johnson. At the age of 16 1/2, he entered in to the US Navy and obtained the rank of an Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AE3) and was in the Navy for four years (1951-1955).

He married Phyllis B. (Tobias) Foster on March 27, 1960 in Sioux City. After leaving the US Navy he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration. In 1968, he started his US Postal career in Sioux City and retired in 1992.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Rev. Tim Squier will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Survivors include his three children, Lori Daniele (Robert) of Earleton, FL, Jim Foster (Rady) of Moore, OK and Janelle, formerly of Hinton; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Foster of Des Moines, IA, Connor and Riley Foster of Sioux City, IA and Lily and Mia Foster of Moore, OK; his aunt, Shirley Fairbanks of Sioux City, IA; and three brother in-laws, Duane Tobias and Phil Tobias (Kathy), Sioux City, IA, Lance Tobias (Elaine), Glendale, AZ and four sister in-laws, Pat Biggerstaff (Bill), Gail Viers (Kenneth), Sioux City, IA, Joy Corder (Mike), Phoenix, AZ and Vicky Wilhelm (Bill), Placitas, NM; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis, his father, Ernest, his mother Bonnie Johnson and his only brother, Ed Foster.

The family would like to thank the doctors (Dr. Rogers, Dr. Cochran, Dr. Hayes, Dr. Toal and Dr. Bacchus) and the nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy staff at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman Regional Healthplex and Medical Park West Rehab facility for their excellent and compassionate care of our father and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, IA.
