Doug Burkett
Jerry Douglas “Doug” Burkett, 72 of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 1, 2017 at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Rev. Ralph Shorey will officiate. Arrangements under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Doug was born January 25, 1945 in Sioux City; he was the son of James and Lucille (Lehman) Burkett. Doug started school in Sioux City, then attended Liberty Consolidated School in Merrill, IA and graduated from Hinton High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966.
On July 8, 1964, Doug married Janet Juhl in Sioux City.
Doug worked for MidAmerican Energy for 23 years, retiring in 1999.
Doug enjoyed spending his free time caring for the family farm.
Survivors include his wife Janet of Sioux City; his mother Lucille Burkett of Sioux City, his children: Jeremy Burkett and his wife Teri of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sydni Martin and her husband Brandon of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren: Gabrielle Burkett, Brigit Burkett, Danika Burkett, Katriel Burkett, Andrew Ruffcorn, Pheonyx Ruffcorn, Oliver Martin and Kinnick Martin.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, James Burkett and a son Michael Burkett.
