Dennis R. Hill

December 30, 1943 — August 19, 2017

Dennis R. Hill, 73, of Sioux City, IA died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at a local hospital.

A celebration of life service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Heartland Community Baptist Church (2201 W. 19th St.) in Sioux City with Pastor Gene Stockton officiating.  No visitation is planned.

Dennis Ray Hill, son of Kenneth Andrew and Clebeth (Shepard) Hill, was born December 30, 1943 in Fort Dodge, IA.

Dennis earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Omaha. While attending school, he joined Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity where he developed lifelong friendships.  During this time, he met the love of his life, Laura Mitchell, whom he later married and with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage. They have two daughters, Jaime (Paul) Knepper and Dina (Pat) Irwin, and five grandchildren:  Brendan (Elizabeth) Knepper, Ashton Knepper, Keegan Little, Raymond Irwin and Laura Irwin. He always treasured time spent with his family.

Dennis worked in the health care field, most recently as a registered nurse.  He cared deeply for those needing long term care.

His passion for American history led him to walk many battlefields.  He was a voracious reader and loved working in the yard, while playing with Blackjack (his loyal black lab). Dennis never missed an opportunity to cheer for his Huskers during football season. He participated in small groups, assisted teachers in Kid’s Rock and attended Sunday worship at Heartland Community Church.  His church family meant a lot to him.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Clebeth Hill and his brother, Kenneth Gene Hill.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their care and support.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals (5401 South St. Lincoln, NE 68506) or Heartland Project Nehemiah.

Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
