June E. Mahon, 89, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, NE with Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. all at the church. Burial will be at South Creek Cemetery in rural Ponca, NE. June was born on June 1, 1928 in Sioux City, the daughter of Clyde and Bessie (Nelson) Holman. She received her Bachelors of Education from Buena Vista College and her Masters of Education from the University of South Dakota. June taught in Sioux City at Floyd Elementary for 20 years and also at Whittier, Grant, Joy and Longfellow Elementary. She married Robert L. “Bob” Mahon on October 13, 1959 in Elk Point, SD. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2015 in Sioux City.

June was a proud wife of a Veteran Marine. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). June and Bob were members of St. Casimir Catholic Church. After St. Casimir closed, they joined St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska. Bob was of Irish decent so June and Bob were at home at St. Patrick’s and loved being members of the church. They were devoted Catholics who rarely missed mass. They also enjoyed their many worldwide travels.

Survivors include her children: Robin “Rob” Mahon of Sioux City and Kathryn and husband Darwin Schumann of Valley Center, KS; grandchildren: Sean Robert Mahon of Sioux City, Reilly Susan Mahon of Sioux City, Joseph James Bowersox of Woodland, OK, Shelley Marie Otto of Omaha, NE, and Angela Suzanne Frey of Milwaukee, WI; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, a brother Kenneth Bonde, and a sister Betty Hines.

June was an animal lover and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Noah’s Hope: 2601 Myrtle Street, Sioux City, IA 51103
