Virginia (Ginny) Kinney, age 95, of Omaha and formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2017, surrounded by her family at Bickford Senior Living. She was born in Omaha to Lorena (Lane) and Frank Roach. She received her education at Cathedral Elementary and High School. She married the love of her life, Jack Kinney, on June 9, 1945. Together they raised 10 children in Sioux City, Iowa.
Virginia was a member of the Blessed Sacrament choir for more than 40 years. She also tutored children at Blessed Sacrament, and she and Jack delivered Meals on Wheels. As a member of the Auxiliary of Marian Health Center, she enjoyed volunteering at the gift shop. She loved animals and nature, and was a skilled seamstress. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling with Jack (with Ireland being their most treasured destination). Virginia’s greatest enjoyment in life was being a mother.
She is survived by 10 children, Michael (Rondi) Kinney, Sue (John) Kinney-Wieland, Mary (Robby) Clouse, John Kinney, Jeanne (Ned) Buser, Molly (Roger) Campbell, Matt (LeAnn Miller) Kinney, Teresa (Jim Miller) Kinney, Steve (Barb) Kinney, and Eileen (Tom McGrath) Kinney. Virginia is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Vince, sister Margaret, grandsons Christopher Wieland and Jason Kinney, and granddaughter-in-law Wendy Kinney.
Memorials may be directed to Meals on Wheels or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Bickford Cottages on Blondo St. for the love and care given to Virginia for the last three years. They would also like to thank Serene Care for the compassion they showed and help given in the final few weeks of Virginia’s life.
