Allan D. Ter Hark

   Allan Donald Ter Hark, 87, of Sioux City, IA died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at a Sioux City hospital.

   Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church Chapel in Sioux City with Rev. Jim Shirbroun officiating.  No visitation is planned.  Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

   Allan D. Ter Hark, son of Fred and Elsie (Carolus) Ter Hark, was born August 14, 1929 near Clarion, IA.  He was raised in the Clarion area and graduated from Belmond High School with the Class of 1946.  While in high school, he was an accomplished athlete in all sports and a great student graduating at age 16.

   At age 17, Allan enlisted in the United States Marines.  He was stationed in San Diego, CA until his honorable discharge.  He returned to Iowa and started working as a parts man at an implement dealership in Belmond.

   On August 9, 1950, Allan was united in marriage to Marjorie Trenary at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, IA by the minister who married Marge’s parents.  Allen and Marge were blessed with three daughters.  Allan drove truck delivering refined fuel to farmers, managed the Kanawha Co-op Oil Co.; and then was a salesman for Farmland Industries for twenty-five years retiring in 1991.  After retiring, Allan and Marge made their home in Spirit Lake, IA and enjoyed wintering in Texas.  They moved to Sioux City, IA four years ago.

   Allan was a member of Spirit Lake United Methodist Church and then transferred to Grace United Methodist Church while living in Sioux City.  He had been a member of the American Legion in Spirit Lake.  Allan was a water enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and boating.  He also enjoyed golfing, watching all types of sports and building model planes and ships.  Above all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

   Allan is survived by his wife Marge of Sioux City; three daughters: Nancy and Roger Van Gorp of Liberty, MO, Cindy and Dan Moser of Sioux City, and Sue and Henry Sandbulte of Dayton, MN; eight grandsons; six great grandchildren; one sister, Janice Olinger of Mason City, IA; one sister-in-law, Darlene Trenary of Belmond, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arnette Ter Hark and one brother-in-law, Jim Trenary.

   Memorial contributions may be directed to the Foodbank of Siouxland or Mayo Clinic.
