Gladys Marie (Luetkeman) Jipp, age 90, of Sioux City and formerly of Storm Lake and Aurelia, passed away on Tuesday, July 25th at a local care facility. A private family service will be held on Monday, August 14th, at Meyer Brothers Funeral Home in Sioux City. Pastor David Koehler of Faith United Presbyterian Church will officiate. Private burial for the family will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartley. The Meyer Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Marie Jipp, the daughter of William and Lorna (Mueller) Luetkeman, was born November 3rd, 1926, on the family farm in rural Grant Township in O'Brien County. Her childhood years were spent on the farm where she received her education at the rural school located one mile south of her home. She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa.
Gladys married Alvin Jipp on August 31st, 1947. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Sutherland and later moved to a farm north of Aurelia in 1963. Upon retirement from farming in 1979, Alvin and Gladys built a home in Storm Lake where they lived until moving to Whispering Creek Retirement Center of Sioux City in 2012. Gladys spent her life with the household duties of caring for her family. She had a special interest in the beauty of flowers around the home. She and Alvin also found great enjoyment in travel with extensive sight-seeing throughout the United States and the world.
Gladys was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church of Storm Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents; one infant brother, Delbert; two sisters, Anita Witt and Ruby Krebs; and one grandson, Kevin Hess. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Connie (Rollyn) Hess of Wentworth, SD and Diane (Tom) Bousquet of Dakota City, NE; one son, Randall (Kay) Jipp of Aurelia; six grandchildren, Shelley, Gina, Joshua, Emily, Kelsey, and Devin; six great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
