Carl "Ed" Ummach V

Carl Edward Ummach V, 68 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at his home following a long illness surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. 10:30 A.M. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Rev. David Zirpel will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Ed was born October 8, 1948 in Cherokee, IA, born on the same date as his father, the only child of Carl Edward Ummach IV and Arleen (Lewis) Ummach. Ed grew up living in Battle Creek, IA primarily raised by his grandparents, Cliff and Florence Lewis. He attended elementary through high school graduating in 1967 in Battle Creek, IA where he excelled in sports.

Following graduation, he married Mary Anne Bartels, to this union three children were born, Carl Edward Ummach VI, Todd Alan Ummach and Stacia Anne Ummach, primarily residing in Storm Lake, IA.

In 1969, Ed spent a year in Alaska working for ITT on the Dew Line Defense Early Morning Radar Site, north of the Arctic Circle on Barter Island, Alaska. An experience he cherished with many great memories.

In 1972, Ed started his successful Insurance sales career, retiring in 2008.

In June 1981, Ed moved to Sioux City and married Arlene (Schulte) Miller, enlarging his family with two more children, Penny and Mike Miller. Busy raising a large family, he enjoyed attending their sporting events and later attending his 13 grandchildren’s events.

Ed’s passions were walleye fishing, hunting, riding his Harley Davidson and being a lifetime loyal Green Bay Packer fan.

Survivors include his wife Arlene of 36 years, his five children Penny McKnight, Ed (Jamie) Ummach VI, Todd (Lori French) Ummach, Mike (Tina) Miller and Stacia (Air Force Lt. Colonel: Troy) Stauter; 13 grandchildren: Alyssa, Hunter & Michael McKnight, Hannah Ummach, Charles (Fiancé, Brylie Nelsen) Ummach VII, Regan & Sarah Ummach, McKenzie & Mya Ummach, Braden & Dathan Miller, Travis & Samantha Stauter; step brothers Doug (Gayle) Craik, Jim Craik; step sister Sharon Steen; sister-in-law Barb (Larry) Bundt; special cousins: Linda Hurd, Carol Lipton and Marcia (Lance) Moore.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Carl E. Ummach IV and Arleen Ummach DeBerg, his grandparents Cliff & Florence Lewis and a grandson Tyler Alan Ummach.
