Bonnie Lou Persinger age 87 of Smithland, Iowa passed away on Sunday July 23, 2017 peacefully at her home.
Bonnie was born December 15, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa. Her parents were George and Clara Reincke. Bonnie graduated for Schleswig High School and then received training as a Beautician at Beauty school in Sioux City, Iowa. She operated Bonnie’s Beauty shop in Smithland at the time she married. Bonnie married Gilbert Everett Persinger on April 21, 1951. To this union, two children were born. The couple lived and worked in the Smithland area all their lives. She was a hard working woman all her life, and raised her children while helping her husband with work on the farm, opened and operated the Smithland Country Store, Ja’Mar Drive-in ice cream parlor and Persinger Sand & Gravel.
Bonnie enjoyed traveling, dancing and family. She will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara Reincke; and one daughter, Mary Pat Badami.
She is survived by her husband Gilbert of Smithland, IA, daughter Jane Gettis and her husband Randy of Winnebago, MN, son-in law Peter Badami and his wife Carol of Quincy, IL, grandchildren: Stephanie (Badami) Sipla and her husband Justin, Adam Badami, Benjamin Gettis and his wife Autumn, and Sarah Gettis.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Smithland United Methodist Church with Reverend Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be at a later date at German City Cemetery, rural Hornick, IA. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
