Marilyn J. Hogue, 78, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 16, 2017 at her residence.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a time of fellowship at Wesley United Methodist Church.
Marilyn was born January 13, 1939 in Volga, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Beverly (Whitford) Chase. She received her teaching certificate through the University of Northern Iowa and taught for a few years before raising her children. Marilyn married Gary Hogue on March 26, 1960 in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1997. After her children were born, Marilyn started her own childcare business. She lovingly cared for many children for over forty years, forming close relationships and touching the lives of countless children and families. Marilyn had a kind and loving heart, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn and Gary were active in the Jaycees, and had traveled to every state except Alaska. They also enjoyed bowling and were members of First United Methodist Church. Marilyn was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Elizabeth and husband Rev. Todd Schlitter of Sioux City, Debbie and husband David Charles of Billings, MT, and Gary “Butch” and wife Rita Hogue of Sioux City; eight grandchildren: Kyle Bubb, Melissa (Anthony) Henriks, Morgan Hogue, Chloe Hogue, Brant Hogue, Cole Hogue, Matthew Charles, and Rachael Charles; brothers: Bob and wife Joan Chase of Spearfish, SD and Donald and wife Sharon Chase of Manchester, IA; sister-in-law Carol Chase of Farmersburg, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Jim Chase.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue, or to First United Methodist Church, in Marilyn’s memory.
