Elwood R. Marquardt, 88, of Sioux City passed away Friday July 14, 2017 at a Sioux City nursing home. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday July 17, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Swanson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday July 16, 2017 from 4 till 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 till 8 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Laurel Nebraska following services in Sioux City on Monday. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Elwood R. Marquardt was born October 25, 1928 in Salem, South Dakota the son of Raymond H. and Emma (Nee Graese) Marquardt. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canova, South Dakota. He entered the United States Military November 14, 1951. He was assigned to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas for basic training in artillery. Upon completion, he was assigned to Korea and served as a truck driver and later attended mechanic school in Japan. He completed his tour of duty as a mechanic and Motor Sergeant in his company. His unit was assigned to transport prisoners to and from Pan Mun Jom when the war ended. He was discharged in November 1953 and began farming with his parents. On June 20, 1959, he married Alice M. Griesel at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel, Nebraska. He disposed of his farm operation and moved to Sioux City, Iowa and was employed at The Broyhill Company in Dakota City, Nebraska. Fairmont Foods Company in 60-61, Lanes Bottling in 62 and began a 42 year, Career in real estate. First with the Cleo Pottorff Company, then Hawkeye Realty, Homeland Realty and United Real Estate Solutions. He retired in August 2004. He and his wife were members of St. john Lutheran Church where he served on various boards and committees, sang in the choir and enjoyed the fellowship. Elwood was also a charter member of Cosmopolitan Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and playing cards. He is survived by his loving and lifelong pal and wife, Alice, Daughter; Janet (Dave) Gross, granddaughters; Hannah and Emma, son; Arden Marquardt, daughter; Jody Jones, grandson; Jordan and his wife Chelsea, great granddaughter; Indiana Rae, grandsons; Jared, Joshua and granddaughter; Jenna all of Sioux City. Brother; Kenneth Marquardt (Sandy) of Forest Lake, MN, step-sister; Joy Grapes of Salem, South Dakota, brother-in –law; Duane Miller of Canova, South Dakota, two nieces and twelve nephews. Mr. Marquardt was preceded in death by his parents, step mother; Isadora Marquardt, sister; Marcella Miller, brothers; Delbert Marquardt and grandson Christian Gross.
