James G. Bauer

James G. Bauer, 80 of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at a local nursing facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Terry A. Roder and Father Jerome Cosgrove as Concelebrants. Interment will follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Jefferson, South Dakota. Visitation will be on Friday, July 14th at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be offered to Hospice of Siouxland. James was born on July 20, 1936 in Sioux City to Francis E. “Frank” and Neva (Irving) Bauer. He graduated with the Class of 1955 from Heelan High School. James served in the United States Navy, where he was on a destroyer stationed in San Francisco working in electronics. He married Shirley Ann Allard in Sioux City on January 28, 1956. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, James joined the Local 18 Plumbers Union in 1960. He worked for Faulk Brothers Plumbing. James co-founded Quality Plumbing with partner Ben Hanson in 1983. He retired from Quality Plumbing in 1999.

James was a former member of the Elks Lodge #112, Abu Bekr Shrine, Homebuilders Association, and the Sioux City Construction League for over 30 years. He served on the Board of Directors for both HBA and the SC Construction League and was the Associate of the Year in 1996. James also enjoyed his membership to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. James enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, and golfing.

James is survived by his sons and their wives, Timothy and Judy Bauer of Sioux City, Dennis and Chris Bauer of Grand Island, Nebraska, Mark and Jan Bauer of Marcus, Iowa, and Matt and Karen Bauer of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Richard and Judy Bauer of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Larry and Rose Bauer of Pinnole, California, Dan and Kathie Bauer of Quartz Hill, California, sister Vonnie Jones of Sarasota, Florida, and sister-in-law Cathi Bauer of Charleston, West Virginia.

James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, sister Barb, brother Dave, parents-in-law Oscar and Ann Allard, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Leona and Bill McKnight.
