Thomas J. "Tom" Weideman

Thomas J. “Tom” Weideman, 80, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Whispering Creek Senior Living. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Nativity Catholic Church with Father Daniel Rupp officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Tom was born January 13, 1937 in Sioux City, the son of John and Marie (Meyer) Weideman. Tom graduated from Bishop Heelan High School and started working in the plumbing business before entering the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Tom completed his apprenticeship for the Local 18 Plumbers and Steam Fitters. Tom married Ellie Bennett on April 17, 1972 in Sioux City. He worked for the Hagan Company and Climate Control Corporation as a plumber/fitter for more than 25 years before selling plumbing supplies for Briggs Inc. until retirement. Tom was an avid golfer with one of his greatest accomplishments being a Hole In One at Floyd Park Golf Course. He also was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife Ellie Weideman of Sioux City; his children: Jim (Rochelle) Weideman of Sioux City, Angie (Doug) Houlahan of Novato, CA, Nicole Weideman of Scottsdale, AZ, and Cece (Matt) Novotny of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren: Reanna, Tristan, Lauren, Brady, Ryan, and Jack; and his siblings: Shirley Weideman of Sioux City, Bill Weideman of Omaha, NE, and Mary Schneider of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Haley, and brother in law Richard “Dick” Schneider. In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks donations be given to Hospice of Siouxland or to The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Iowa. His family will be forever grateful to the Whispering Creek staff for their kindness and compassion in caring for Tom.
