Amy M. Thoreson

May 5, 1973 — June 25, 2017

Amy Thoreson, 44, entered into heaven on Sunday, June 25, 2017, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Morningside Assembly of God Church (4310 Old Lakeport Road, Sioux City) with her cousin, Pastor Rob Thoreson, officiating. The service will be live streamed online at http://morningsideag.churchonline.org/ The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and a time of fellowship.

Amy Marie Thoreson was born May 5, 1973 in Sioux City, IA to Beverly (Hunter) and Herbert Thoreson. She graduated from East High School in the class of 1991. Amy attended North Central University in Minneapolis, MN where she graduated, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Church Music.

Amy had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She grew up singing and performing in church. In high school she was involved in Choir, Swing Choir, All State Choir, Talent Shows and Musicals. Amy performed the part of Maria in West Side Story as a senior in high school. She later performed as the Narrator in a Sioux City Community Theater production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Amy recorded a CD, “My Cry” of some of her favorite Christian songs. She desired to use her voice to glorify God and bring others closer to Him.

Amy was a hard worker and held various office jobs over the years. She spent the last several years working as a field office manager at Knife River where she made many cherished friends.

Amy had a fun, quirky sense of humor and rarely met a dare she wouldn’t take. She was quoting Monty Python right up until the last few days of her life. The day before she passed away, she was heavily medicated and barely able to speak, but still joking with family and friends that she was going to beat them all to heaven as she told them, “I win”.

Amy’s favorite scripture verse was Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Amy lived out this verse as she battled cancer. She was not afraid of death, but left this earth with peace in her heart.

Amy will be deeply missed by her mother, Beverly Thoreson; father, Herbert (Lori) Thoreson; sister, Debra (Jeremy) Chesley; maternal grandfather, James “Pete” (Caroline) Hunter; nephews, Nathaniel and Sidney Chesley; Nieces, Emma and Alexis Chesley and many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ellen Jean Hunter; paternal grandparents, Norman and Lois Thoreson; a cousin, Matthew Thoreson; and an infant half-sister Pamela Thoreson.
