Catherine A. "Katie" Ferris

Catherine Anne “Katie” Ferris, 51, of Sioux City, IA died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, 1100 Jones Street, in Sioux City with Father Lucas Rice officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery inside Graceland Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Catherine Anne “Katie”, daughter of Victor and Donna Ferris, was born September 25, 1965 in Sioux City, Iowa.  Katie was raised in Sioux City.  She was baptized at St. Thomas Orthodox Church and was active there in her early years.  She attended Sioux City Schools and after finishing school, Katie worked various jobs in Sioux City.  In late 1997, she met her longtime companion and caregiver, Gunnar Sewalson.

Katie loved her cats and enjoyed listening to music.

Katie is survived by her longtime companion, Gunnar Sewalson of Elk Point, SD; cousins: Dr. Raymond Nemer (Elayne) of Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Don Nemer (Lori) of Gregory, SD and Barbara Lammers (Paul) of Sioux City, IA and their children, Sam and Lexie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents, Albert and Hazel Ferris; and maternal grandparents.
