SIOUX CITY | Gerald J. Fish, 79, of Sioux City passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Congregation Beth Shalom with A. Frank Baron officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Gerald was born Feb. 24, 1938 in Sioux City to Louis G. and Sylvia (Madorsky) Fish. Gerald grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. He continued his education at the University of Iowa where he obtained a degree in accounting.
On Feb. 14, 1964 he married Sharon K. Taxer in Sioux City Together they raised two sons.
Gerald worked for the family business, Ben Fish Tire, then worked as a traveling auditor for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 10 years. He returned to Ben Fish Tire and retired from there in 2002.
He was an active member of Congregation Beth Shalom where he taught Hebrew classes part time.
Gerald enjoyed reading non-fiction books. Through KWIT radio, he read the newspaper to the blind. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He also enjoyed going to movies and working on crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his wife Sharon; sons, Bradly and Kevin Fish of Sioux City; brother, David (Susan) Fish of Seattle, WA: sister, Sarilye Fish Atlas of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ron Fish.
