Denis J. “Denny” Campbell, 66 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Glad Tidings Lighthouse Church in South Sioux City, with Pastor Michael Ring officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be this evening, Friday, June 9th at the church from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the church. www.meyerbroschapels.com Denny was born on September 3, 1950 in Sioux City to James D. and Mary A. (Schwarte) Campbell. He graduated from Heelan Catholic School with the Class of 1969. Denny met Carol Downhour in 1968 while the two worked at Woolco in Sioux City. He graduated from the United Electronics Institute in Des Moines in 1972. Denny married the love-of-his-life, Carol Downhour, on June 29, 1972 in Elk Point, South Dakota. Two days later Denny left for Basic Training with the United States Air Force, where he served from July of 1972 until December of 1979. He worked for Dynatech, Thorp Electric, and the South Sioux City Community Schools before working for CF Industries for 30 years as an electrician where he was employed at the time of his death.
Denny was a devoted and caring husband, dad and grandpa. His passion was ensuring that his family was always taken care of. Denny enjoyed serving on the South Sioux City Fire Department for 35 years, holding several offices, dedicating and sacrificing much of his time to serve others including serving as Fire Chief for the last 15 years of his career. He enjoyed camping and riding his motorcycle, but found his greatest joy in his family, especially hanging out with his grandkids. Denny would travel many miles to watch his grandkids in all kinds of events, including basketball, dance, volleyball, softball, and cheerleading. He was a member of the Glad Tidings Lighthouse Church, where he played drums for 25 years.
Denny is survived by the love of his life his wife Carol of almost 45 years; sons Kirk (Angie) Campbell and Todd “TJ” (Jessi) Campbell; and grandkids Aspen Campbell, Autumn Campbell, Faith Campbell, Kara Campbell, Kirsten Campbell, and Andrew Campbell, all of which are in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents.
