Mary Eliades

Mary Eliades, 81 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at a Sioux City hospital.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday with a Trisagion Service at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

 

Mary was born August 10, 1935 in Velvendo, Greece; she was the daughter of Stamkos and Helen (Harsoulas) Diavastis. Mary came to the United States with her mother and sister when she was a teenager. She attended Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and sang in the choir where she met her future husband. On October 19, 1958, Mary married Thomas D. Eliades in Sioux City. He passed away on May 8, 2013 in Sioux City.

 

Mary was a homemaker but would often help her husband and brother in law in the family business, Milwaukee Wiener House. For many years, she baked the koulouria that was sold in the restaurant. She loved to cook, tend flowers, and above all, spend time with family. She belonged to Holy Trinity’s Philoptochos Society for fifty years.

 

Survivors include her three children: Koula Legner (Mark) of Saginaw, MI and their children Christina and Daniel (Cassandra), John Eliades (Gail) of Merrill, IA and their children Alka Mary and Thomas, Mike Eliades (Jennifer Kennelly) of Sioux City and their children Anna and Julia; her sister Koula Demetroulis (Gus) of Sioux City.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Tom.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
