Edna Davis was born to Edwin E. and Dorothy (DeJong) Davis on October 31, 1929 in Tyndall, SD. The family moved to South Sioux City, NE when she was very young. Edna attended and graduated from South Sioux City Schools.
Edna and Lloyd Martinsen were married on March 30, 1951. Uniquely, they shared the same birthday, Halloween. Of great importance to Edna and Lloyd was providing a loving and stable home for their “girls.” Camping, vacations, fishing and family gatherings provided many treasured memories. Edna was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed cooking and took great pride in caring for her family and home. Before and early in her marriage, Edna worked at T.S. Martin & Company Department Store. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church since 1953.
Surviving are daughters, Nancy Smith, JoEllen O’Connor, Elaine (Tim) Smith, and Karen (Ron) Lewon and 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, sister-in-law, Sharon Davis of Texas, and her beloved tiny white ball of fur, Princess.
Preceding her in death was husband, Lloyd, in 2008; parents Edwin and Dorothy; sisters, Winifred Beermann Nabb, Betty Benscoter, Evelyn Jenkins and Helen Jansen; brother, Harry Davis; and son-in-law, Jim O’Connor.
A very special thank you to grandson, Brian O’Connor, who was Edna’s guardian angel in later years and lovingly ensured that she received the best care possible. Family is also thankful for the support and care that Hospice and Holy Spirit Retirement Home provided.
