Bruce G. Sparks

March 1, 1939 — May 28, 2017

Bruce G. Sparks, 78, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on May 28, 2017 at a local care facility.

Cremation will take place and no services are planned.  Private burial of the cremains will be at Logan Park Cemetery.  Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Bruce was born March 1, 1939 in Sioux City to Allen and Clara Sparks. He attended grade school at Riverside elementary. Bruce always loved school. One year he begged his mom to go to summer school and she said O.K. even though he wasn’t behind in any subjects and it wasn’t required that he be there. He developed so many lasting friendships at Central High School, class of 1957. They have blessed his life more than they know.

Bruce joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas for three years until his honorable discharge.  After returning to Sioux City, he worked in banking for several years.  Bruce developed lateral sclerosis in mid-life, and it took about ten years to get a for sure diagnosis. He fought a long and courageous battle with the disease.

In his younger and healthier years, Bruce enjoyed vacationing in New Orleans, Canada, and many other places of interest. He also liked to occasionally go to horse races and casinos.  In addition, he was active in Sioux City Community Theater and proudly volunteered for Meals on wheels and was a generous giver to many charities.

Survivors include his friend and caregiver, Greg Miller of Sioux City; his sister, Wanda Mobley of Sioux City; half-brother, Allen and Linda Sparks of St, Joseph, MO; his nieces, Glenda Marshall of Covina, CA, Lexie Bouchler of Albany, OR, Delaina Berger of Sioux City and her sons, Tim Archer and Robin Buddi, Jill Lesline and husband Richard of Sioux City and their children Sunshine, Lacy, and Dustin; his nephew, Kirk Dunham and wife, Betty of Mulberry, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Glenda Ping and Lola Gibson.

Bruce never had children, but he was quite fond of his nieces and nephews.

Thank you Touchstone Nursing and Hospice, we couldn’t have managed without your help. The vets also provided mightily. Blessings to All.

“As for men, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field, the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.” Psalm 103:15-16.
