Larry D. Ellis, 65 of North Sioux City, SD passed away after a courageous battle with a long illness on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday all at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Larry was born June 6, 1951 in Sioux City; he was the son of Harold and Bonnie (Shapley) Ellis. Larry grew up in Sioux City and attended Riverside Junior and then graduated from Riverside High School. He then attended Sioux Empire Community College in Hawarden, IA.

On August 9, 1986, Larry married Roxanne Thoeny in Sioux City.

Larry worked for Swift & Co until 1986 and then worked for Wells Blue Bunny in LeMars until retiring in 2001. From 2006 until 2016, Larry was a bus driver for Dakota Valley Schools. Larry drove the students to every school event he could and attended most of the middle school and high school events.

Larry was a dedicated volunteer for 15 years, for the NAIA Women’s Basketball Tournament held in Sioux City. He worked from the very first game in the morning to the last game every day the tournament was here. He touched and was remembered year to year by so many people.

He was a member of the Riverside Masonic Lodge and ABU BEKER Shriners from 1970-1995. Larry loved kids and was an advocate for any child.

The most important part of Larry’s life was spending time with his family especially his new grandson. Larry was an avid bowler and he loved to play softball. Larry always had a smile on his face.

Survivors include his wife Roxanne of Sioux City; his daughter Lindsey Ellis and her fiancé Alex Thompson of Sioux City; his grandson: Carter Ellis Thompson; 3 sisters: Sharon Harrison (Jim) of Sioux City, Sandy Jorgensen (Denny) of Sioux City and Kathy Peterson (Rod) of LeMars, IA. Larry is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a son Adam D. Ellis and his father in law Roger Thoeny.
