Marilyn June Howe, 90, of Sioux City, formally of Hinton, IA passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. James Travis officiating. Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 4-7:30 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be given at

Marilyn June (Freed) Howe was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on May 8, 1927. She was the first-born child of Leonard and Viola (Krause) Freed. She was confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City and graduated from Leeds High School.
Marilyn worked at Montgomery Wards prior to meeting the love of her life, Alvin Howe. Alvin and Marilyn were united in marriage on November 12, 1947, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City. They resided east of Hinton for 63 years where they farmed, raised cattle and sold DeKalb seed corn. After Alvin’s death in 2010, Marilyn moved to her independent living home at Whispering Creek in Sioux City.
Marilyn's interests and hobbies were closely related to her family, her passion for life and her lasting friendships. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and Bingo. She loved to shop and collect owls, deer and clocks. Marilyn was a member of the Red Hat Society. Marilyn and Alvin enjoyed summers at their home in Okoboji, Iowa, and made special memories during their many trips to Branson, MO.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, David and Theresa (Tish) of Hinton, and William (Bill) and Ann of Albert Lea, MN; five grandchildren, Emily (Jeff) Burkey of Omaha, Grant (Katie) Howe of Hinton, Mariah Howe (fiancé-Scott Eyler) of St. Peter, MN, Lana Howe and Logan Howe of Albert Lea; one great-grandchild, Brinley Howe; her sister, Bonnie Achord of Sioux City; her sister-in-law, Delores Freed of Dakota Dunes, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Howe; her brother, Eugene Freed; and brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Mervin and Thelma Howe and Virgil and Bonnie Frerichs.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family and her many friends.
