Betty was born July 20, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska to Emory and Helen Smith. Upon graduating High School she worked at JCPenney’s as a model where she met her future husband Ernie Weiland. They married August 30, 1948 and spent most of their life together in Sioux City where they raised two sons, John “Jack” and Jeff Weiland.

She worked for several years in a pharmacy and eventually turned her love for antiquing into a fulltime business that her and Ernie enjoyed together. Always quick to laugh and never afraid to speak her mind, she was a proud mother whose life was focused around those she loved. She enjoyed dancing and was an avid gardener and painter, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and doting over her 15 great grandkids. Her deep love to her family was a gift that will transcend through the generations of Weilands to come. She will forever be admired for her ability to overcome life’s obstacles with her unwavering strength, mental toughness and never give up attitude. Always one to set the example, she maintained her resilience to her last day.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie after 62 years of marriage, son John “Jack” Weiland, and both parents. She is survived by her son Jeff and Peggy Weiland of Sioux City, Daughter-in-law Adele Weiland of Sioux City, grandchildren include Brett (Christa) Weiland of Colorado Springs, Stephanie (Seth) Schramm of Sioux City, Barry (Kristi) Weiland of Sioux Falls, Jason (Haley) Weiland of Des Moines, Lisa (Adam) Bernard of Jefferson and Heath (Jenna) Weiland of Des Moines.
