Gary L. Shupe

April 20, 1938 — May 8, 2017

Gary Leroy Shupe, 79 of Sioux City passed away on Monday, May 08, 2017 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Good News Baptist Church. Rev. John Woodford will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com

 

Gary was born April 20, 1938 in Sloan, IA; he was the son of Carl and Alta (Duncan) Shupe. Gary grew up in the Hornick area and graduated from Hornick High School. Following high school, Gary served for 3 years in the U.S. Army.

 

On August 10, 1958 Gary married Lyla Barngrover in Dakota City, NE. She passed away in November of 2005 in Sioux City.

 

Gary worked for the City of Sioux City as a refrigeration engineer at the Auditorium and later worked as a maintenance engineer for Metz Baking Co in South Sioux City, NE.

 

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and family dinners. He was an amazing mechanic, could do anything with machinery, and at one time, built his own bobcat. He also enjoyed fishing and just being outdoors.

 

Survivors include his children: Gary Lewis Shupe (Cristine) of Phoenix, AZ, Denise Harrison (Chad) of Sioux City, Lynette Cline (Brian) of Sioux City, Donna Walsh (Craig) of Sioux City; his brother and sisters: Rick Shupe (Evie), Mary McInerney (Mike), Vera Copple (Morey), Nancy Shelley (Joe), Margaret Bauman, and Debbie Poulsen (Ken); 9 grandchildren: Hannah Shupe, Madison Shupe, Jonah Shupe, Kelsey Harrison (Joe Briseno), Cody Harrison, Taylor Cline, Jacob Cline, Alex Cline and Ryan Walsh (Lindsey); 2 great grandchildren: Lio and Abel Briseno.

 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years Lyla; his brothers and sisters: Raymond Shupe, Herschel Shupe, Ruby Pittman, Howard Shupe, Edgar Shupe, Duane Shupe, Robert Shupe, Ernest Shupe, Evonne Baker, Phyllis Bauer, Betty Cleveland and Donald Shupe.
