Rudy V. Lee, Jr. age 67 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday April 25, 2017 at his residence.

 

Home Going services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Floyd Brown will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a celebration of life service at 7:00 P.M. all at the Church. Rev. Richard Moore will officiate at the prayer service. Rudy was born September 17, 1949 in Sioux City; he was the son of Rudolph V Lee Sr. and Alice Daniels.

Rudy grew up in Sioux City and attended Hopkins Elementary School, West Jr. High and then graduated from Central High School in 1967. He then attended Southern Illinois University where he played baseball. He was drafted by the New York Yankees.

 

Rudy returned to Sioux City in 1972 and was an apprentice electrician for the IBEW Local 231. He worked for several electrical companies until 1983 when he joined the Sioux City Fire Department as a fire fighter. He was a member of the Fire Fighters Union Local 7 and retired in 2007. Rudy was the first African American to serve in the IBEW Local 231 and the first African American Fire Fighter in Sioux City. From 2009 until 2016, Rudy worked at the Sanford Community Center.

 

On August 29, 1975, Rudy married Flora M. McNeal.

 

Rudy was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and had served at a trustee of the Church. He was a member of the Town House Fast Pitch Softball Team that won the National Championship in 1990. Rudy enjoyed playing golf and volunteered for the Frist Tee.

 

Survivors include his wife Flora Lee of Sioux City; his children: Leslie Lee of Chicago, IL, Treyla Lee of Sioux City, Marissa Lee (Lance Wolff) of St. Louis, MO; Trenton Lee of St. Louis, MO; his father: Rudolph V. Lee Sr. and his wife Margaret of Minneapolis, MN; his brothers and sisters: Jeri D. Lee of Minneapolis, MN, Gregory A. Lee of Minneapolis, MN, William B. Lee of Pinole, CA, Maia Lee of Minneapolis, MN, and Carycisse Diederich of Savannah, GA; his aunts Mattie Lee of St. Louis, MO and Gladys Green of Dallas, TX; a sister in law: Kristi Lee of Minneapolis, MN; 2 brothers in law: Milton Crawford of LeMars, IA and Alford Ellington of Sioux City. Rudy is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Rudy was preceded in death by his mother Alice Lee, a son Terron Lee, grandparents Willie and Zilphia Lee, George and Ethel Daniels and nephew Tremayne Lee.
