Steven G. (Steve) Calhoun

Steven G Calhoun (Steve) of Winston Salem North Carolina, formerly of Sioux City is now with his lord and reunited with friends, grandparents and his mother. He died unexpectedly at home April 14th, 2017. He was 64 years old.

Services for Steve with full military honors will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11 AM, Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Interment will be at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City immediately following. A visitation with family present will precede the service at 10 AM. All arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Steve was born May 14th, 1952 in Bangor Maine. He moved to Sioux City at a very early age where he grew up and always considered it home. He attended East High school and after a brief career in banking and technology he embarked on a 27 year career with the military. He spent four years with the Army and 23 with the Airforce where he earned the class of Master Sergeant and was an Aircraft Guidance and Control Specialist. He worked on high tech aircraft and loved planes as well as his career in the military. He was stationed in various bases throughout the country as well as overseas and was an integral part of Operation Desert Storm which earned him the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He was also awarded medals for Marksmanship, Humanitarian Service, The Longevity Service Award and numerous outstanding AF Unit Awards.  

During his time in the Military, Steve was blessed with the birth of two Children: Charles (Chuck) and Nicole (Nikki).

Steve retired from the military in 1996 and continued his passion for aircraft going to work for Timco Aviation in North Carolina. The years of military service and climbing in and out of airplanes took a slight toll on his health and he took early retirement in 2015. Steve was also an accomplished artist, painting a mural for the Airforce at one of their esteemed bases as well as numerous small paintings for family and friends. He also took in and cared for numerous rescue dogs. He had a wonderful hearty laugh, loved investigating conspiracies and treasured his youthful time growing up with family. He greatly enjoyed his weekly talks with his mother.

He is survived by a son, Charles Calhoun of New Brunswick, Canada, a daughter Nicole Young (Mike) of Winston Salem, NC, his father, Charles W. Calhoun of Dakota Dunes and brothers Mark Calhoun (Melanie) of Southaven MS, and Craig Calhoun of Dakota Dunes, a sister, Susan Daniels of Bayard, NE and three grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother just two months ago, Shirley Calhoun, Paternal Grandparents Paul and Margaret Calhoun, Maternal Grandparents Harry Sanderson and Earl and Olive Glann, a brother-in- law, Brad Daniels and a sister-in-law, Karen Calhoun.
