Michael Joseph Berens, 39, of Sioux City passed away, April 15, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Heartland Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Stockton officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 4-8 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Heartland Baptist Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Mike was born December 16, 1977 in Sioux City, the son of Jeff Thompson and Barbara Berens. He attended schools in Blair and Fremont, Nebraska and Sioux City before attending college at the University of Wisconsin.
Mike worked for Lieber/Bridgeport Construction for a number of years before his health declined. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, video games, and cooking but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Brenda Berens of Sioux City; children Frankie and Casie Means; his father Jeff (Maureen) Thompson; his dad Wally Godden; stepmom Joanne (Henry) Hildebrand; maternal grandfather Donald Berens; paternal grandmothers Marilyn Miller and Barbara Young; brothers and sisters: Cory (Charise) Godden, Bruce (Beth) Elgert, Nick (MiMi) Godden, Cody Godden, Melissa (Scott) Stahlnecker all of Sioux City, Allison Thompson of Puerto Rico, Ethan (Chelsey) Thompson of Sioux Falls, SD, Jared Thompson and Sam Thompson both of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Berens and maternal grandmother Dorothy Hagins.
