Melissa Learing Julius

SIOUX CITY | Melissa LeAnn (Learing) Julius of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at her home after a 49 year battle with life…after all, isn’t all of life a battle?

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 with a prayer service to follow at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Rev. Kathy Martin will officiate. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Melissa was born on December 31, 1967 (her parents’ little tax deduction), in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Mary “Ann” Learing. She graduated from North High School in 1986 and Western Iowa Tech in 1987.

Melissa and Mike Julius were married on October 7, 2006. As her sister said, “He may have been the hunter, but she was the trapper.”

Melissa was employed as an office manager for Plains Boiler Service for the last 22 years, a job that she truly loved and considered it her calling. 

Melissa enjoyed walking her dogs, jigsaw puzzles, gardening and KCSJ’s Saturday morning ‘Nostalgia Theater’.

Melissa is survived by her husband, Mike; her two dogs, Lillian Josephine and Bella Louise; parents, LeRoy and Mary Ann Learing of Sioux City; sister, Terese Peters and her husband, Dwight of Ames, Iowa; parents-in-law, Jim and Betty Julius of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Beth Julius of Sioux City; 2 nephews, Collin and Skylar and a great-nephew, Phoenix all of Sioux City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Melissa would like to thank her husband who was at her beck and call during her final days and her parents…who would have thought the hardest part of being a parent would happen in your 70’s?
