Florence Evelyn Petersen, 100 ½, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Del Olivier officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Florence was born September 23, 1916 in Sioux City, the daughter of Benjamin and Christine (Peterson) Wyant. She married Verne Moulton and to that union three children were born. Florence married John R. Petersen (Johnny) on July 24, 1948 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1979 in Sioux Falls, SD. During her working life, Florence was a waitress at Kresge’s Soda Fountain, Woolworth’s, and Younkers Red Rooster Room. She enjoyed dancing , listening to country music and playing cards. Florence was always up for a game of cribbage or Yahtzee, but her greatest love was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter Beverly Whitsel of North Sioux City, SD; son-in-law Norman Clay; daughter-in-law Betty Moulton eleven grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Johnny, son Verne Moulton, daughter Corrine Clay, and her five siblings.
Granny will always be remembered for having just the right balance of being both adorable and feisty!
