Raymond L. Case died peacefully in his home of 65 years on April 4th, 2017 in Sioux City, IA at the age of 89. Funeral Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 with Reverend R. Paul Johnston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church and a reception will follow before burial at the Gayville Cemetery, in Gayville, South Dakota. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ray’s life. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Ray was born on September 4, 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa to Reuben and Jessie Case. Both of his parents died in 1936. Ray, along with his sisters and brothers went to live in the Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City. Ray always said they were lucky to have found a home there as so many children had worse lives during the Depression. Ray graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1945. He married Lorraine Mary Olson, on July 13th, 1952, in Irene, South Dakota, after being introduced to her by his sister Grace, who attended Nursing School with Lorraine. Ray worked for Knoepfler Chevrolet for 47 years in the Auto Body Repair shop holding numerous positions over the years. He retired in 1990. Ray was involved in the Leeds Boy Scouts. He was active and held several positions at St. John Lutheran, First Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran Churches in Sioux City. Ray sang with the Siouxland Barber shop Chorus for several years enjoying his many performances. Ray enjoyed attending his children’s choir and band performances as well as swim meets. Both Ray and Lorraine loved to travel by car, train, ship and plane and went on many trips all over the US, West and East Coasts and Norway during their years together. Ray enjoyed striking up conversations with everyone he met. No one would go away a stranger. He told tales of his childhood in Sioux City, such as, riding on the streetcars to go to the Saturday Matinees. Jokes of all sorts were often included and he enjoyed a good laugh. His positive attitude towards all things helped get him through all of the struggles in his life along with his deep faith in Christ. Ray is survived by his children; Susan (Clarence) McGowen of Grand Island, NE, John (Suzi) Case of Ankeny IA, and Lori (Donald) Stokes of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren Brandy (Mike) Case Haub of West Des Moines, IA, Adam(Jenna) Case of Omaha, NE, Jessica (Jake) Scheideler of Grand Island, NE, Amanda (Evan) Westpfahl of Grand Island, NE, Jason (Evan ) Stokes of Lees Summit, MO, Matthew Stokes of Greeley CO, Abigail Stokes of Blue Springs, MO; 8 great-grandchildren; sister In-law Violet Olson of Meckling SD; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife, Lorraine Mary Olson Case on March 6, 2011 after 59 years of marriage, parents Reuben and Jessie Case, sisters Grace Makoczy of Buffalo, NY, Jessie Citarelli of Sacramento, CA, brothers Robert Case, Alan Case, several half-brothers and sisters, and grandson Kyle Patrick Stokes.
