Ralph Speck, 93, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Westwood Specialty Care Center in Sioux City. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment, with Military Honors by the United States Air Force, will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. www.meyerbroschapels.com Ralph was born July 24, 1923 in Rockport, MA to Reinhard and Gertrude Speck. Ralph graduated from Rockport High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army as an aviation cadet at age 18. Ralph was a WWII Air Force Veteran. He was a B-17 bomber pilot and flew 17 missions from Italy to Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. He was a member of the 429 bomb squadron and 15th Air Force. He joined the Air Force Reserves and retired in 1983 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Ralph spent forty plus years as a buyer for Wigman Company in Sioux City until his retirement. He enjoyed living on his acreage and spending time with his wife Betty, and family.
Ralph is survived by four of his five children, Ken Speck of Sioux City, Dr. Richard (June) Speck of Springfield, IL, John (Jane) Speck of Urbandale, IA, and Donna (Richard) Brzuchalski of Chandler, AZ; eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, of 67 years, his daughter Carole, and his great-grandchild Hayden.
