Ruth A. Lang

Ruth A. Lang, 83, of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at a local care center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, 2101 Jackson Street in Sioux City, with Mr. Ken Wells officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., by Morningside Rose Croix Chapter 502, followed by a prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Ruth Ann (Lawrence) Lang, daughter of Benjamin D. and Gladys L. (Hough) Lawrence, was born March 3, 1934, at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. Ruth grew up in Sioux City and attended Roosevelt Grade School, West Junior School and graduated from Central High in 1952. After graduating high school, Ruth worked for a couple of years and then was united in marriage to Merle E. Lang on April 2, 1954, at Ruth’s parents' home in Sioux City. This union was blessed with five children. Ruth worked nights as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital and attended Western Iowa Tech to receive her L.P.N. degree. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing and graduated with her R.N. degree. Ruth continued working at St. Joseph, then Mercy Medical Center until her retirement in 1994. In her early years, Ruth was active in Girl Scouts. As her children were growing up, she was a Cub Scouts Den Mother for several years. She was a member of Rainbow for Girls, past Matron of ISIS Chapter O.E.S., past Worthy High Priestess’ of White Shrine of Jerusalem and past Queen of Daughters of the Nile. Ruth was a member of First Christian Church where she was involved in the choir, a church elder and leader, Sunday School teacher and Christian Women’s Fellowship group. Ruth is survived by her children, Patricia Spitz of Gackle, N.D., Lawrence Lang of Monmouth, Ore., Charles (Suzanna) Lang of Sioux City, Dorothy (James) Praster of North Platte, Neb., and Wallace Lang of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Linda) Lawrence of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers-in-law: Harold Pulscher of Sioux City, and Wallace Keasey of Montrose, Colo.; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; one granddaughter, Wendy Boster; and three sisters, Margaret (Sidney) Mosher, Barbara Pulscher and Dorothy Keasey.
