Thomas "Tommy" Hoversten

Thomas L. Hoversten, 53, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at a local nursing home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 3, 2017, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Thomas Lorin, son of Bernard and Dorothy (Severance) Hoversten, was born September 4, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa. Tommy was Down Syndrome and attended special schools within the Sioux City Community School District. He then worked at WACO (Currently NPI).

Tommy attended Catholic Mass as often as possible where he sang with gusto. He loved swimming and running. He ran in the Special Olympics and proudly showed off his gold medal often. Tommy enjoyed going to the circus, riding his 3-wheeled bike, playing basketball, painting, and watching religious programs. Tommy cherished the time spent with his mom.

Tommy is survived by his parents Bernard and Dorothy Hoversten of Sioux City; a brother Greg Hoversten and wife Mary of Henderson, Nevada; two sisters: Joan Dunstone and husband Jeff of Houston, Texas; and Susie Hoversten Finney of Sioux City; his nieces and nephews: Casey Hoversten, Joshua Hoversten, Alisha O’Loughlin, Adam Dunstone, Annabel Gray, Garrett Reyman, Lauren Hoversten and Joseph Finney; and by great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Steve Gray, Garett Reyman, Joseph Finney, Karen Quirk, Craig Hatler, and Andy Hatler. Honorary pallbearers are David Conley and Ross Riesdorph, Adam Dunstone, Bobby Pigg, and Theresa Smith.
