Dwain "Babe" L. Krause

   Hinton, IADwain L. “Babe” Krause, 89, of Hinton died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

   Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Leeds with Rev. James Travis officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.  Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.     

   Dwain L., son of Clarence and Gertie (Kounkel) Krause, was born June 7, 1927 in Sioux City, IA.  After being born, Dwain’s dad nicknamed him “Babe” after the famous baseball star, Babe Ruth.  Babe was raised in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School in 1944.  After high school, he worked various jobs.

   On February 5, 1947, Babe was united in marriage to Darlene L. McFarland in Elk Point, SD.  To this union four children were born.  The family made their home in several different areas of the country due to Babe’s construction work.  He worked in Iceland, on the St. Lawrence Seaway and on the Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona.  Locally, he worked several years for W.A. Klinger Construction.  Babe was a 50-year member of the Local Carpenter’s Millwright Union. 

   Babe enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, fishing and golfing and even had a hole-in-one.  He was a lifelong member of Calvary Lutheran Church

   Babe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Darlene of Hinton, IA; one son and family: Dennis Krause and wife Diane of Leeds and their daughter Dorinda Scott and husband Leif of Estherville, IA; daughter, Mila Krause of Apple Valley, MN; daughter and family: Rhonda Allen and husband David of Eden Prairie, MN and their son Tyler Allen of Minneapolis, MN; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Krause of Le Mars, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

   Babe was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Guyon Don; and two brothers: Donald and Darrell Krause.

   Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church.
