Elsie G. Hendrickson

Elsie G. Hendrickson, 97 of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Jeffrey Swanson officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be offered to church in Elsie’s name. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is handling arrangements.
Elsie was born on October 12, 1919 in Djura, Sweden to Nels and Ellen Pierson. She received her education in the Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Central High with the Class of 1938. Elsie married Norman J. Hendrickson on October 14, 1939 in Sioux City. She was a proud homemaker, and worked outside the home after her family was raised. Elsie worked at the Scandinavian Bakery in the late 1950’s and Williges in the late 1960’s through the 1970’s. She was a proud member of the St. John Lutheran Church.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Barbara Carney of Waverly, Iowa; grandchildren Jason (Corina) Carney of Germany, Sara (Tony) Rakaric of West LaFayette, Indiana, JoLynn (Shane) Keplinger of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jeremy Hendrickson of Rogers, Arkansas; great-grandchildren Presleigh Keplinger, Caden Keplinger, Sophie Keplinger, and Julia Carney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman on September 26, 1992, son Jim, and brother George Pierson.
Casket Bearers for the service will be Jason Carney, Jeremy Hendrickson, Bob Pierson, Tony Rakaric, Shane Keplinger, and Steve Hemmelman.
