Sioux City, IA – Darlene E. Hill, 89, of Sioux City, IA died February 7, 2017, at a local care center.
Cremation rites will be accorded and no services are planned. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Darlene, daughter of Franz and Jeannette (Stevenson) Hendrickson, was born June 19, 1927 in Sioux City, IA.
Darlene graduated from Central High School in 1946. In 1947, she was united in marriage to Howard C. Curtis in Sioux City and to this union three children were born. The family made their home in Rockwell City, IA and Howard died unexpectedly on November 4, 1959. Darlene continued living in Rockwell City until moving back to Sioux City in the mid 1960’s.
Darlene worked as a switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell for several years and then at First National Bank until her retirement in 1989.
On March 3, 1979, Darlene married Robert Hill.
During her retirement years, she and Robert enjoyed traveling. Above all, Darlene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by one son, Barry Curtis of Dakota Dunes, SD; two grandchildren: Adam (Bonnie) Curtis of Gretna, NE and Andrea (Todd) French of Murray, KY; and three great grandchildren: Gavin Curtis and Cabot and Joelle French.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Howard Curtis and Robert Hill; one daughter, Connie Curtis and one son, Doug Curtis.
