Jean Ann, daughter of Omer and Ellen (Anderson) Dauplaise, was born July 26, 1922, in Superior, Wisconsin. She grew up mostly in the Superior/Green Bay area and lived in many places as her father worked in construction and moved frequently. Jean graduated from high school in Superior and then attended vocational school.
On November 20, 1943, Jean was united in marriage with Norbert J. Nixa at Pensacola, Florida. Eleven children were born to this union. The family made their home in Hawarden, Mason City, Osage and Britt before settling in Sioux City in 1957. Jean was a stay-at-home mom while Norbert worked at Chris Hansen Construction. After the children were raised, Jean worked for the Cancer Society. The couple enjoyed traveling during retirement. Norbert passed away on July 10, 2006. In 2008, Jean became a resident at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars.
Jean was a voracious reader of books, newspapers and magazines. She thoroughly enjoyed following college and professional hockey, football and baseball. An avid bridge player, she was a member of two bridge clubs. Throughout her life, she was a member at Blessed Sacrament and Immaculate Conception Churches. Above all, Jean cherished her family and the blessings they shared.
