Karl J. Bonowski, 84 of Sioux City, entered into rest on Thursday, January 19, 2017 in the company of family. A

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Brent Lingle as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, January 23rd from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m., a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m., and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Karl was born on August 22, 1932 in Sioux City to Karl and Juanita (Connor) Bonowski. He received his education in the Sioux City Schools before serving his country in the United States Navy.

On February 9, 1952, he married Alice Joyce Wilkinson in Sioux City, Iowa, and they raised seven children. Karl was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church. He was employed as a baker for Continental Baking Company as well as a business agent for Bakers Local 443 for 33 years. Karl also tended bar.

He was a member of the Woodbury Country Civil Defense, a Captain in the Police Reserve and Fire Rescue Town Squad, and an EMTAR for 4 years at St. Joseph Hospital. Karl enjoyed fishing in Minnesota with his family, hunting, and woodworking. Karl was happiest when in the company of family and friends.

Karl is survived by his 7 children; Karl Bonowski, Michael Bonowski, Vicki Banks, Jeffrey Bonowski, Larry Bonowski, Kelly (Cathy) Bonowski, all of Sioux City, and Rita Barry of Dallas, TX; sister Margo Caplinger of Old Hickory, TN; 14 grandchildren David Barry, Rebecca Barry, Jennifer (Brian) Henning, Michael Colling, Melissa Colling, Lucy Bonowski, Michael Chesher, Jacob Chesher, Karlee Banks, Larry Bonowski Jr., Nina (Joey) Fitchett, Daniel Bonowski, Leah (Billy) Welch, and Alison (Joshua) Jones; 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice Bonowski, son-in-law Reggie Banks, two grandchildren Christopher Barry and Nicolas Bonowski, and brother Larry Bonowski.

Pallbearers for the service will be David Barry, Michael Chesher, Jacob Chesher, Marc Curl, Floyd Curl, and Billy Welch. Honorary Bearers will be Daniel Bonowski and Joshua Jones.
