Marven M. Martens

March 7, 1933 — January 15, 2017

   Marven M. Martens, 83 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at a local nursing facility. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Father Armand J. Bertrand as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening, Wednesday, January 18th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.

    Marven was born on March 7, 1933 in Rushmore, Minnesota to Claus and Grace (Frey) Martens. He received his education in Rushmore, and Worthington, Minnesota Schools. Marven served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Shirley Eufers on February 17, 1962 in Sioux City. Other than a short stay of two years in California, Marven has spent the majority of adult life in Sioux City. He worked at John Morrell in Sioux City until his retirement. Marven was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially cribbage, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

   Marven is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Shelly Martens, and son Jeffrey Martens, all of Sioux City; sister Marvella Baird of Norwalk, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Marven was preceded in death by his parents.
