Ray Edwin Baker

Ray Edwin Baker, 91, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Northern Hills Assisted Living. Per Ray’s wishes, private family services will be held and burial will take place at Buena Vista Memorial Park in Storm Lake, Iowa. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel assisted with arrangements. Ray Edwin, son of Harold Francis and Vilsie (Whitford) Baker, was born January 16, 1925, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up in Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1943.

In July of 1943, Ray was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater with an Anti-Aircraft Artillery battalion. In October of 1945, he received his honorable discharge and returned to Iowa.

On November 5, 1949, Ray was united in marriage with Myrna Josephine Johnson in Storm Lake, Iowa. Three daughters were born to this union. The couple made their home in Storm Lake, Sergeant Bluff, Sioux City, and Kingsley. Ray was employed by Mid-American Energy for 36 years, retiring in 1985 as an Electronic Foreman.

Ray is survived by three daughters: Babette “Babs” (Bob) Hickson of Sioux City; Tylene (Bill) Woods of Hinton; and Wendy Dolecki of Ashland, Virginia; four grandsons: Damon (Stephanie) Cleveland, Brian (Stephanie) Hickson, Cory (Jamie) Cleveland, and Derek Woods; four granddaughters; Stephanie (Mark) Smith, Laura (Paul) Tarnowski, Danielle Dolecki and Brianna Dolecki; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrna Baker, a sister Marlene, and a great-grandson Zeb Hickson.

Memorials may be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or to Hospice of Siouxland.
