Duane W. Spies

December 28, 1930 — December 30, 2016

   Duane W. Spies, 86 of Hinton, IA passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at a care facility in Sioux City.

   Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Hinton United Methodist Church. Pastor Kolleen Queener will officiate. Private burial will be in Floyd Valley Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. 

   Duane was born December 28, 1930 in Hinton, IA; he was the son of Phillip and Anita (Buenger) Spies. He grew up in the Hinton area and graduated from Hinton High School. Duane served in the U. S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.

   Duane was part owner of Spies Brothers in Hinton for many years until his retirement.

   He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and going to coffee with his friends. Duane was a member of the Hinton Volunteer Fire Department, he served on the Hinton City Council and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

   Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Connie Stephens, Phil Stevens (Karen), Kathy Beck, Ken Spies (Betti), Jan Allen (Joe), Tom Spies (Sherry), Lee Parks (Ginger), and Becky Homesley. Duane is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

   Duane was preceded in death by parents; 3 sisters: Gerry Kelso, Phyllis Stevens and Jeanette Parks, his brother Jack Spies.
