Marie I. Deck

Marie I. Deck, 98 of Sioux City passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital. 

Memorial services will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Roger Madden officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. 

Marie was born on April 1, 1918 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to James D. and Anna (Beatty) Larrabee, Jr. After graduating from Norfolk, Nebraska high School, she obtained her B.A. from the University of Nebraska in 1941. She received an M.A. from the University of South Dakota, circa 1969, in English literature. 

Marie married Paul W. Deck in Norfolk, Nebraska on October 1, 1941. During World War II, she taught high school and served as principal in Pierce, Nebraska. After World War II, Marie and her husband moved to Sioux City and became life-long residents and raised five boys. In the late sixties, she again taught English and Latin at Sioux City East High School. She was the last Latin teacher in the Sioux City Public Schools.  

Marie was a member of First united Methodist Church. She was Past Chapter President and member of Chapter Iowa, P.E.O. 

Marie is survived by sons: Paul W. Deck and wife, Prudence, Robert B. Deck and wife, Cindy, James L, Deck, William G. Deck and wife, Jan all of Sioux City, and Dr. John D. Deck and wife, Ann of Lincoln, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. 

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers James and Wayne Larrabee, and 2 great-granddaughters. 

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Paul A. Deck, Jon L. Deck. Robert B. Deck, Jr., Tod Deck, William Austin Deck, and John M. Deck.
